Adrienne Shih

Currently, I am a senior staff editor at New York Times Opinion, focusing on off-platform strategy. I also lead the production and development of our desk’s live programming (think Instagram Live and Twitter Spaces).

Most recently, I was the audience engagement editor for politics at the Los Angeles Times, embedded with the company’s Washington, D.C. bureau. I was also the social media and engagement editor at Foreign Policy magazine, where I led the company’s digital and off-platform strategy.

I split my childhood growing up between Los Angeles and Taipei before returning to California for college. I am a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, where I earned dual bachelors degrees in political economy and legal studies.

I am currently a co-director for the Asian American Journalists Association’s international Mentor Match Program.

Mentorship has played a crucial role in my own career, so I’m always looking for opportunities to pay it forward: I was a faculty advisor for AAJA’s 2020 VOICES cohort, as well as a mentor for the ICFJ & Microsoft News Labs Reporting Grant in Immersive Storytelling. Please feel free to reach out to me if you’d ever like to chat about post-grad life and early career advice!

In my free time, I enjoy traveling—I finished a three-week Amtrak trip around the country, visiting 11 cities and crashing on four friends' couches. You can find me in a secondhand bookstore or at my favorite cafe—probably planning my next trip around the world. I’m also an avid reader (you can see what I’ve been reading here 📚).
